Philipp Teriete

Pianist and composer, educator and researcher Philipp Teriete (*1986 in Steinfurt, Germany) has performed nationally and internationally as a soloist and in various ensembles (in Germany, France, Switzerland, USA and Panama). Philipp studied classical piano and music theory in Freiburg (Germany), Paris (France) and London (UK) as well as jazz piano and composition in Oslo (Norway) and New York City (USA). His compositions have been performed by the German Southwest Radio Big Band, the big band of the Norwegian Academy of Music and others. Two studio albums of his have appeared: afterglow (2019) with original compositions for jazz quintet, and Portrait (2014) with solo piano pieces by Béla Bartók and George Enescu. Since October 2017, Philipp has been teaching as a substitute professor of music theory at the University of Music Freiburg while pursuing a Ph.D. on the topic “The Influence of 19th-Century European Music Theory on Early Jazz.”
